Referring to the Melbourne Breast Unit

The Melbourne Breast Unit provides comprehensive breast care treatment while keeping the GP and associated doctors up to date with patients progress. Open communication is encouraged in all aspects of our unit.

We have included a frequently asked questions page for Doctors, as well as downloadable resources such as brochures and newsletters for your reading.

Our breast specialists will also provide additonal information and guidance on breast issues for Doctors upon request.

  • Referrals may be provided directly to the patient or submitted electronically. To submit a referral electronically, please contact us at 03 9419 1166 for an MBU referral template which may be used or click here to download.

  • Validity: A GP referral for a consultation is valid for 12 months. A specialist referral is valid for 3 months. If a patient is returning to discuss a new issue within the validity period of their referral, a new issue does require a new referral. This will enable our Breast Specialists to be kept up to date on patient’s health and it will also enable the patient to be eligable for a medicare rebate for their consultation.

Epworth Rehabilitation Foundation

The Epworth Rehablitation Foundation is one of the largest private sector rehabilitation services in Victoria. They offer a number of programs for breast cancer patients including a specialised program for women with localised breast cancer. Patients attend the program both during and following the completion of their acute treatment.It is the ENHANCE program. Please follow the above link for further information about this service.

The OTIS Foundation

The OTIS Foundation provides retreat accommodation at no cost to those living with the challenges of breast cancer. They aim to provide immediate relief to people who need a short-term break away.
